La Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias Cinematográficas desveló el martes 8 de febrero las nominaciones para la 94ª edición de los Premios Oscar, que se celebrará el 27 de marzo en el Dolby Theatre de Los Ángeles, Estados Unidos.
Se dieron a conocer los nominados en las 23 categorías, desde la mejor película hasta el mejor director, junto con las categorías de actuación y las categorías por debajo de la línea, incluyendo el mejor sonido, el mejor diseño de producción, el mejor maquillaje y peluquería, y los mejores efectos visuales.
Leslie Jordan y Tracee Ellis Ross fueron los encargados de hacer el anuncio, que se transmitió en directo en Oscar.com y Oscars.org, así como en las plataformas digitales de la Academia, como Twitter, YouTube y Facebook.
Los Oscar tendrán presentador en su edición de 2022, algo que no sucedía en la gran fiesta del cine desde la gala de 2018. Aunque todavía no se ha designado un presentador para la ceremonia de los Premios de la Academia, que tendrá lugar el domingo 27 de marzo. Se emitirá en directo a las 20.00 horas en la cadena ABC.
Kristen Stewart consiguió una nominación por su papel de la princesa Diana en "Spencer", y se verá compitiendo con las favoritas de los fans, como Nicole Kidman ("Being the Ricardos") y Olivia Colman ("The Lost Daughter"). "The Power of the Dog" y "Dune" obtuvieron nueve nominaciones cada una. Will Smith podría tener dos Oscars en su haber en un mismo año este mes de marzo, ya que ha recibido una nominación al mejor actor y a la mejor película por su papel en "King Richard", que también ha producido.
"West Side Story" obtuvo cinco nominaciones en medio de la polémica con su protagonista, Ansel Elgort. También hubo varias parejas que obtuvieron nominaciones. Jesse Plemons y Kirsten Dunst recibieron nominaciones por sus papeles en "The Power of the Dog", mientras que Javier Bardem y Penélope Cruz obtuvieron sendas nominaciones por "Being the Ricardos" y "Parallel Mothers".
El director de "West Side Story", Steven Spielberg, hace gala de su poderío cinematográfico al ser la primera persona en la historia de los Oscar que recibe nominaciones al mejor director en seis décadas diferentes.
