Al menos 58 personas murieron y otras 515 resultaron heridas un hombre abrió fuego contra la multitud que asistía a un concierto en Las Vegas, en lo que se considera ya uno de los tiroteos más sangrientos ocurridos en las últimas décadas en Estados Unidos.
El autor de la matanza, identificado como Stephen Paddock (64 años) y quien luego se suicidó, disparó desde el piso 32 del hotel Mandalay Bay, ubicado en la avenida central Strip, donde miles de personas asistían al cierre del "Route 91 Harvest Festival".
El cantante Jason Aldean, que logró escapar, estaba en el escenario cuando se escucharon las primeras ráfagas de disparos. El músico le dijo a sus fans a través de Instagram que él y su banda estaban a salvo. "Esta noche va más allá de lo horrible. Aún no sé qué decir, quería hacerle saber a todo el mundo que mi equipo y yo estamos seguros. Mis oraciones para aquellos afectados hoy. Me duele en el corazón que esto le pueda pasar a alguien que estaba aquí para pasar una noche divertida", escribió.
Líderes mundiales, actores, músicos, deportistas y otros famosos lamentaron la masacre y expresaron su dolor y apoyo a las víctimas y sus familias.
